VARIANCE/SNG's

Post  dicie180 on Wed Jan 28, 2009 7:50 pm

Usually, ( with 4 diff ipoker alias's) i can run at a healthy 25% to 33% roi in 10 seater sng.

Now the buy in level was $2-$5, but mainly $5, i wud say 80% of the buy ins where $5 level.

Now i have moved up to $10-$20 level, and find my roi at 7%, over 50 gmaes...

Call it what you like, variance, or whatever, but the standard is no better (worse in fact) than $2 level, but cant put my finger on what is wrong...

Any tips??

well the first thing that jumps out at me is that 50 games is way to small a sample. One win is 10% of your investment in those 50 games, so variance is going to make a huge difference, a couple of 3rds instead of 1sts will vary you roi drastically over 50 games.

Don't get too concerned over roi, it's positive, you're not losing, thats good enough over just 50 games. Focus instead on each individual game, and keeping your mind on your play.

Thanks Rick, i wondering what amount of sng would you use for a true ROI... I know its not the the be all of poker, but it is a target i have given myself to run over 20% over 500 sngs at this level, which wud show a healthy profit.

Dicie.

HArd to put the finger on what is going wrong without seeing your game.

any sng player who knows about them will tell you 2k

ill try and find the link for you then. it was a big write up apathy and jackal (prob both in top 5 winners in sngs in the poker world) done for sngs and it sums it up more clear

also i wouldnt say i am like stoke. On current form more like arsenal but thats nothing to brag about

When you move up in stakes the players get better (not worse contrary to popular belief) and therefore you should expect the ROI to slightly drop. 7% is okay.
